Vince Gilligan Reveals He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Will End... Currently.

The acclaimed writer-producer never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would become a cultural phenomenon. “The viewers have been incredible,” Gilligan says. “I did not foresee the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

Now that Season 1 of the hit series reaching its finale—and the next chapter greenlit and underway—the writers' room recently discussed the fan response and whether it will influence the storyline of Pluribus.

About the Overwhelming Fan Response

Anyone might to get sidetracked by the constant speculation and online debates regarding Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.

“It feels like constantly eating your favorite dessert and being in a state of bliss,” he describes. “It's amazing, but I learn of it anecdotally, and that's by design. Never in my life searched for my own name online, nor do I ever plan to. It's quite the opposite. It's a bottomless pit I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

In spite of his concerted efforts, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The most practical strategy is to take it in stride and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We make no attempt to change the plot,” says Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not changed by what people are saying.”

“We prefer to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan adds.

The Central Mystery: Has the creator See the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Given that the writers are not listening by audience theories, can we assume they have mapped out how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? The answer is yes… in a way.

“We've developed some compelling concepts about the ultimate destination,” he states. “however, we remain prepared to abandon a good idea for a more brilliant plan. That has held us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we conceive of something superior and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

On the other hand, if they hit a wall, director and writer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to use as a backup.

“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and that's where they've been all along,” he says humorously, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Alternatively, one could always use the classics?

“I'd love for Carol to open her eyes with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV+.
