Trump Welcomes Families of Injured Military Personnel to the White House
President Trump revealed on Sunday that he has asked the family of a Guard member fatally shot last week to visit the executive mansion.
He noted that he contacted her family and they were “heartbroken”.
Details on the Devastating Shooting
Soldier Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a attack on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Memorials across West Virginia have occurred in their remembrance.
White House Offer
The commander-in-chief explained he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both members of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” the president told the press. “And in the same way with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Public Response
Attendees assembled over the past few days at Webster County high school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been fulfilling duties with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s national effort to aid policing efforts in DC.
Honoring Beckstrom
“She was the individual that educators desired. She carried herself with inner fortitude, a contagious smile and a positive energy that inspired those around her,” the principal, the head of Beckstrom’s previous school, stated to the press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always ready to assist people.”
Memorial arrangements for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Measures and Policy Revisions
Officials have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with a charge of homicide and charges of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.
The incident prompted the Trump administration to halt asylum processing and cease granting entry permits to owners of Afghan passports.
Condition of Andrew Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, started his military career in 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, per the AP.
He is still undergoing care and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s governor Patrick Morrisey stated on a news program.
Attorney general Bondi stated on a news show that she aimed to visit the family.
Memory of Beckstrom
Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County high school in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a law enforcement officer with excellence, according to the state guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she definitely had fortitude,” he addressed the audience at the vigil. “Though her time was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
