The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.
While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as pardoning festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a prosperous future free from concern.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, provided by a local firefighter, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: happy, multicultural, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Annually, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
