The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Selected the Incorrect Critical Role Track

This latest animated series, the most recent animated series from the beloved role-playing group, unveiled a new introductory sequence. It showcases the beloved cast of misfits, outcasts, and rogues kicking ass and taking names, while teasing at several heart-wrenching backstories for key figures such as the voice actor's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, the character Fjord.

All in all, the intro appears amazing. However, I felt that an element was missing in the music selection.

The intro employs "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional song composed by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. This piece originating from the official score of that title, the second one released by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label their music brand. It's a wonderful nostalgic option, and I believe that fans of the second campaign will love its presence.

Personally, The Mighty Nein's opening doesn't quite capture the excitement and energy that accompanied the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", composed by singer-songwriter the artist, was an instant classic in my view when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it improved further when co-founder Sam Riegel wrote words to the melody for the series' animated intro in 2018.

Including singing from one actress, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as the writer, the song was catchy and enjoyable. Back then, I hadn't seen the second campaign yet, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my device. This track that excites you before you start an installment of adventurous fun.

The Mighty Nein's intro with "the new song" fails to hit the same chords in my opinion. It's an impressive piece of music, but from what I know of this party, I feel that its tone is a little off.

Of course, Critical Role has stated that the animated show will have a few changes and differences from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its opening appears as one of them.

The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on Prime Video from November 19. For those eager until then, or want a head start to learn about the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are accessible on the audio platform and YouTube.
