Edwards along with O'Neil are two of the initial candidates in the frame to succeed the former manager as manager of Wolves.
Pereira was sacked on Sunday following the squad's 10-match winless beginning to the Premier League campaign.
And both candidates - both of who have historic associations to the club - are part of the names to be considered by the club ownership.
The manager is presently at another club, which would create a possible hurdle to his appointment at Molineux.
Nevertheless the ex- Luton Town manager - who played more than 100 of games for Wolves during his time as a player - is said to be a leading candidate for the vacancy.
The mid-career manager is reportedly enjoys support from the Wolves board as they start the search of appointing a new head coach.
O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected contender, even though he would be a shock choice considering he was sacked by Wolves in December last year.
The ex- West Ham player is out of work which means the club would not be required to provide any buyout fee.
