Netflix Selects Spot-On Performer for Bon Clay in the Hit Series Third Season

Baroque Works is poised to make a major impact in the next installment of Netflix’s show of One Piece, though the real showdown won’t take place until season 3, and a cherished, popular member has recently been selected.

Netflix announced Tuesday that the skilled actor has joined the One Piece season 3 cast and will embody Bon Clay. This character can use their power to morph into an identical duplicate of anyone they’ve made contact with with their right hand. The actor, who is identifies as non-binary and prefers they/them pronouns, will play a version of that figure reinterpreted as gender non-binary, rather than as a drag artist, in the real-life adaptation, unlike the initial comic and animated series.

Escola is joined by several other fresh additions set to bring the group to reality, such as chief Mr. 0, brought to life by Joe Manganiello, Sophia Anne Caruso as a key member, and Sendhil Ramamurthy, who also joins the ensemble as King Nefertari Cobra of the fictional land.

Though this character is a important part of the group, the character won’t appear until One Piece the upcoming installment. Considering season 2 set to cover the Little Garden segment, this signals a major departure in the schedule of their first appearance, one that could suggest more adjustments to the story’s structure.

Escola’s blend of excellent comedic sense and emotional depth makes them a perfect fit for the part. Besides their current animated role in the animated feature Boys Go to Jupiter, they garnered significant recognition and numerous honors for creating and performing in the hit comedy play Oh Mary!, emphasizing the versatility they’ll bring to one of One Piece’s most celebrated characters.

The platform’s adapted One Piece series is due to premiere for its second season on March 10th, 2026.
