Manchester United Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the WSL side.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
